Canterbury Hebrew Congregation

This year the Canterbury Hebrew Congregation had two projects, both carrying on from 2023. The first was collecting a variety of items needed for babies and children up to the age of 5 which we took to It Takes A Village Hub. The organisation was so grateful for the things we donated last year that we decided to collect for them again this year. The second project was helping the regular volunteers at Silverstream Reserve. This is an ongoing project. Last year we helped with clearing the area around the native plants that had been planted earlier in the year. Several members of the community returned at the appropriate time to continue with the planting and on Mitzvah Day this year we helped clear weeds in a large area to help tidy it up. Our group had an age range of under 5 to over 70. We all had a very enjoyable time and look forward to helping out again in the future.

Jewish Care Victoria - Residential Home Carnegie

The celebration of Mitzvah Day at the Residential Home Carnegie was extra special this year. Volunteers from JNF and Ha’Tzofim (scouts) visited the facility to assist with a large-scale gardening project, helping to make the space even more beautiful and welcoming for our elderly residents!

Jewish Care Victoria - Gary Smorgon House

The Mitzvah Day celebration at Gary Smorgon House is truly one of a kind - a full day of events for residents and volunteers, offering activities to suit everyone’s interests. We’re very grateful to our volunteers and staff who dedicated their time and our partners, including TBI and ZOOZ Israeli Dancing, for collaborating with us on this special event. Activities included: • Gardening Activity: Volunteers have created a beautiful lifted garden, which will be located in the unit for residents with age-related conditions. This garden will provide sensory stimulation and the opportunity to enjoy freshly grown herbs and vegetables. • Manicure Sessions: Residents enjoyed pampering and nail care provided by volunteers. • TBI Choir Performance: The whole facility was alive with clapping and joy as the choir performed timeless songs. • Hand Massage and Pampering: A relaxing activity provided by our dedicated staff. • ZOOZ Israeli Dance Performance: The day concluded with an uplifting dance performance that had everyone on their feet and in the festive spirit.
