Gift of Life AustraliaOtherYesGift of Life Australia raises awareness about the mitzvah of saving lives through donating blood stem cells to Leukaemia patients for whom a match has not been found within their own family. All healthy 18-45 year olds who are 50+kg, neither pregnant nor feeding and willing to help save a life can join the Australian Stem Cell and Bone Marrow Donor Registry (ABMDR) either by joining a special testing session and giving a small blood sample or by donating blood at any Red Cross Blood Collection Centre and asking to join the ABMDR at the same time. As tissue typing is DNA related, the likelihood of finding a match for the 6 Jewish patients in urgent need is highest within the Jewish community, even then the likelihood is only 1 in 10 000!
Help is desperately needed so refer to www.giftoflifeaustralia.org.au for more details of how to participate in Melbourne and Sydney.
