In the past 10 years, m.a.d.woman has managed to help more than 300,000 Australians facing disadvantage in the past several years. This includes women and kids fleeing domestic violence, kids and adults in hospital, hungry and homeless, long term unemployed and more. We are aiming to provide gift packs for 200 Melbourne children to be given to them at an end-of-year party in November. These children range in ages from babies to teenagers. Hills Jewish Families and Parramatta Synagogue	Collectathon	No	The Hills Jewish Families Group and Parramatta Synagogue are coming together to create Chanukah gift hampers for families supported by Jewish Care. Everyone from our communities and beyond will be encouraged to collect new items suitable for young families; including both items that they need and items that provide a bit of luxury. On Mitzvah Day, we will compile and gift wrap the hampers, as well as create homemade cards and bookmarks for the recipients. This is achieved via a whole range of projects including classes, Shabbatons, personalized learning community service, introduction to families in the Orthodox community and the exciting JWRP trip to Israel. JWA would like to team up with Monash Health Stepping Stones Adolescent Unit to give adolescents experiencing significant psychiatric, emotional and behavioural difficulties a kit consisting of stationery, magazines, pens, small board games, stickers and textas, and knick knacks, such as rubiks cubes. KEDEM Progressive Synagogue	Working Bee	No	Volunteering at the Avalon Centre. Avalon is run entirely by volunteers to assist those who have been forgotten, overlooked and left behind. This includes the homeless, people with mental health and physical problems and disabilities, the elderly, refugees and anyone else who may benefit from our support Services offered at Avalon include: The Drop-In, The Homeless and Clothes Distribution Programme, Day with Avalon trips and The Saturday Getaway Programme. Avalon also offers individual support. On Mitzvah Day we will be undertaking various tasks including sorting of clothes, gardening, cleaning the kitchen and other areas of the centre. KEDEM Progressive Synagogue	Collectathon	Yes	KEDEM will be COLLECTING SUNGLASSES NEW & PRE-LOVED PRESCRIPTION GLASSES which will make their way to isolated villages in PNG with the help of the offices of Kelly O’Dwyer MP, Federal Member for Higgins, Victoria and Warren Entsch MP, Federal Member for Leichhardt, NSW, who will organise the glasses to be taken to Cairns. Warren’s wife Yolonde, volunteers on a YWAM ship and will make sure the glasses go to people in desperate need who live in remote and isolated villages in Papua New Guinea. Kehilat Nitzan	Blood Bank Donation	Yes	The Kehilat Nitzan Blood Drive has been an integral part of Mitzvah Day since its inception, and we gladly welcome all adults (16+) who wish to donate either blood, plasma or platelets at the Red Cross Blood Bank donation centre in Caulfield South. Kehilat Nitzan run this blood drive in partnership with Magen David Adom Victoria. Show her that she matters because everyone deserves to feel that way. Next time you’re at the shops, collect a few items for your Christmas handbag. No matter how you celebrate Christmas with your family, this will be the most meaningful and appreciated gift you give this year. What goes in the bag? Your handbag can be packed full of useful things and little luxuries for someone experiencing homelessness or in crisis. So what does a woman need? Chances are, she needs the same personal care and sanitary items you need. Especially relevant items are those little things you need everyday, from your toothbrush to your hairbrush. Torah4Thalia	Collectathon	Yes	Thalia died tragically on 20th January 2017 whilst out with her mother and sister in Bourke Street, Melbourne. Thalia was almost Bat Mitzvah age and was looking forward to this momentous event in a Jewish girls life. In April 2018 on the day she would have had her Bat Mitzvah, a Sefer Torah will be delivered to the shule that had been part of her community. The project is to provide an opportunity for as many Jewish children to participate in the writing of the Sefer Torah in solidarity with Thalia by buying for a small fee their name.
